I have been trying to add widgets to my sidebar and footer area so they show across the whole site. It has the widgets option, and it lets me add new ones. But then it greys out every widget listed and nothing shows up on the preview of my site. Any suggestions?

  • Please spend a little time to go over the settings of the theme you’ve chosen to use. This will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I’d never even heard of this theme before, but I just installed it… and within a minute of going over the theme’s settings, it became obvious what’s causing the issue you’re facing.

    SIDEBAR:

The theme has one sidebar, but the sidebar can be positioned to the left or right, or disabled completely. Also, the sidebar display can be set separately for individual posts vs pages, as well as the posts/blog page, archive pages, etc.

By default, all settings were set to “No Sidebar”. That’s why the widget you add to your sidebar does not appear on the website.

Please go to your theme’s customizer settings and configure your theme’s sidebar display options:

APPEARANCE => CUSTOMISE => GLOBAL SETTINGS => SIDEBAR SETTINGS

    FOOTER:

The theme comes with two separate footer layout options:

Layout Option 1 supports FOOTER SIDEBAR ONE, TWO, THREE and FOUR

Layout Option 2 supports FOOTER LAYOUT TWO

(You should have seen these different footers where you configured your widgets)

Option 2 (FOOTER LAYOUT TWO) is a single column, and it’s the default setting. If you put anything here, it’ll display on your site right away.

Option 1 (FOOTER SIDEBAR 1-4) breaks the footer into up to 4 columns. But this is not the default setting… so if you drop any widget into any of these footers, nothing will appear on your website.

Once again, go to your theme’s customizer settings to configure your footer display options:

APPEARANCE => CUSTOMISE => GLOBAL SETTINGS => FOOTER SECTION

    Good luck!

If you are experiencing issues with widgets not working at all on your Author Portfolio Theme, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

    1. Check your theme settings – Make sure that your theme is set up correctly and that all necessary options are enabled.
    2. Clear your cache and cookies – This can help to clear out any errors that may be causing the issue.
    3. Check for any plugin conflicts – If you have any plugins installed that could be conflicting with your theme, try disabling them one by one to see if that resolves the issue.
    4. Update your theme and plugins – Make sure your theme and plugins are up to date, as this can help to resolve any known issues.
    5. Check for a theme update – If nothing else works, you may need to update your theme to the latest version.
    6. Reinstall your theme – If all else fails, you may need to reinstall your theme.

If none of the above solutions work, you may need to contact the theme author for further assistance.
