ok i’m seriously beating my head against a wall here. i have a new install of wordpress on a site i was creating a theme for in artisteer today. spent all day working on it and tonight decided to move it over to a new domain name…couldn’t get fantastico to work, gave me a long list of error messages so i tried quickinstall (this is in cpanel)…and it worked instantly, no problem (never knew it was that much easier than fantastico…think i’ll be sticking with quickinstall in the future! assuming this isn’t a problem with it).

apparently jetpack is now part of this install through quickinstall…it didn’t come with the ones i had installed with fantastico…so i had heard good things about it so i went ahead and linked it up to the wordpress.com account, as requested….

but when i tried to customize my widgets…just moving them around and such….it doesn’t save them. it looks fine in the backend, but refresh and look at the page frontend and they are still all in the default locations and the new ones i added don’t show.

i’ve done everything i can think of to fix this…including trying different browsers. i normally use firefox. interestingly, both chrome and IE worked fine for a second after i went in and re-saved the widgets…they showed the way i wanted them…until i refreshed the page again, at which point they went back to the default again.

so what the heck is going on here??? anyone have any ideas? i’m going nuts over here!!!

still having serious widget issues. HELP? apparently the drag/drop feature is no more? not sure if that’s a new wordpress thing or if that’s jetpack or what…but it gives me instead an “add” link and then makes me choose from a new menu as to where to put it. i much preferred being able to drag/drop and immediately see the changes…now i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the changes to show!! it seems random that they just show up later. sometimes. SIGH

ok after fiddling around some more, i’ve found out that it appears to be the WP Super Cache plugin that is causing the problems. which makes sense, now that i think about it.

so basically it was causing WP to not update the changes to the widgets. so is there some way to fix this? for now i have the plugin disabled…but there must be others with this problem that have found a solution?

THANK U TINA! This has been sooo frustrating. I change a widget and NOTHING happens. For at least 15 minutes. I am going to try to do something about wp-cache, like stomp it chew it up and spit it out to see if that works, I’m just glad someone else is out there sharing in my frustration. Sorry I don’t have any more information for you.

I deactivated it and it instantly updated my widgets. Phew. Maybe I’ll turn it back on when I am done with my preliminary setup. Thanks again.

Maybe the problem is that you’ve used for your custom sidebar a sidebar ID, which contains a uppercase letters. Just change it to lowercase and it should work.
