Is there any way to make widgets display in the mobile view?

Ideally, a third “mobile view widget” would be great, allowing admins to fully configure what displays for mobile users.

I realized I didn’t specify that I use the “Left Sidebar” and keep my “Right Sidebar” empty – I haven’t checked to see if “Right Sidebar” displays in mobile view, but I need “Left Sidebar” to display (or, as I said above, perhaps a 3rd “Mobile View Sidebar”)

    Thanks!

I have not used this theme, but it’s typical for sidebars to drop below the main content section of a page in mobile view. Is that what’s happening or are they both disappearing altogether?

Sunspot is a responsive theme, and it was designed to display widgets below the main content on the mobile view.

chellycat, is that both widget sidebars? I’m using the left sidebar in sunspot, and with https://iddy-biddy.com/ I get no widgets when I view the site on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3, using the stock android browser app).

Just an FYI – I’m still having this issue with the plugin – specifically, my left sidebar widgets do not display in mobile view.

I’m now using WordPress 3.6 and Sunspot 1.1

    Hi capecodvalet,

Only the widgets in the right sidebar are being displayed on mobile.

The left sidebar is part of the site header, and to keep the order of importance between posts and widgets intact, the sidebar is hidden on small screens.

I updated the theme with a sidebar description, to document the behavior. It will be available for self-hosted installs with the next update.

    Thanks,
    Konstantin

That’s too bad – I love the way it looks with a left sidebar only, but if I use only that sidebar for my widget space there’s no way to get its widgets to display in the mobile view. Which kinda brings me back to the suggestion that you add some widget area that displays only for mobile view or something like that.

Any suggestion for how to make this work if I only use the left sidebar?

I ended up creating a child theme that adds a hidden sidebar-2 (left sidebar) to sidebar.php and then changes display property of that sidebar from “none” to “inline” when the screen width gets below 640 (the same test point as when the “normal” left sidebar becomes hidden).
