I have installed a theme and am trying to add some widgets (wc-Cumulus, Calendar) to the Top sidebar. Unfortunately, when I do this it replaces the Search and Featured Video which are part of the theme. I want the widgets to go under those items but they get replaced! How can I stop that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Alex

Are the theme’s widgets listed as wdigets that you can add in the Widgets screen in the admin? If so, just drag and drop those widgets where you want them.

If not, it’s possible that the theme’s widgets are hard coded in the sidebar file and are being replaced if any dynamic sidebar widgets are present.

this is normal behaviour and the way the sidebar is programmed.
the ‘widgets’ you see when you install your theme are only a kind of placeholders, which will be replaced the moment you drag your first widget into the sidebar.
you should be able to find the same widgets in your widget area to drag into the sidebar.

if not, you may need to edit sidebar.php(?) and change the code a little bit to keep the desired widgets hardcoded in place; and still be able to drag furher widget into the sidebar.

Thanks guys for the help and fast reply!!

dcannon1: Thanks for the reply. I think you’re right. I did drag themm and the new widgets work great but I still want the old ones.

alchymyth: Again, thanks! When I look at the appearance of the theme and edit the sidebar the widgets I want are still there even with the new ones activated and dragged to the top sidebar. I shall investigate how to change the code to keep everything. If anyone has a link to a guide that would be awesome.
