    Hello,

How do I use the Widget? I cannot find it in my list of Widgets to put in the menu.

I use AFThemes DarkNews Pro and yes, I do see “widget unactivated” in “Data management”

    Hi Stephen,

The documentation (“lumiere help – how to” section in top) is a bit outdated, written in poor English, but can be a good start anyway.
There are two different ways to use the widgets in Lumière:
1/ The auto widget. All posts will have a widget automatically added according to the post’s title. Once the option is selected in the Lumière options, no more user action is required, everything is done automatically.
2/ The specific widget. In each post you write, you can decide to add a movie, by adding a specific lumière widget.

Which one do you want to use?

I don’t seem to have much success with 1/ but 2/ works brilliantly.

2/ Happy to read that! It’s an important part of the plugin, glad it works for you.
1/ I’ve been able to make autowidget work on a wordpress.com environment (that I got yesterday ??) using a theme from the same editor as yours but free. So it should work for you as well.
A/ make sure to activate auto widget in advanced options (general options – advanced). Make also sure to active a lumiere widget in widget page (click on “widget unactivated” on the top menu, then on the wordpress widget page that is shown, select a place to put your Lumière widget, add a Lumière widget, edit the widget title if you want, save, and voilà! Every post will have movie information displayed according to the post’s title.)

I really need to improved the how to.

That’s the trouble, in the Widgets selection page, I can’t find Lumiere.

Write “Lumiere widget”. It doesn’t appear automatically.

Erm, where would I write that?

I don’t have access to a laptop right know, but here is a screenshot made on mobile phone:

Basically, when adding your new widget, you can search for widgets by their names in a new search option. Search for “lumiere”, that should do it!

Ah, I don’t use the Block Editor, I use the Classic Version so it doesn’t have an option for that

I see… it used to work with the classic widget. Need to look into it.
As a temporary solution, you may disable the classic widget plugin, use gutenberg to add Lumiere widget, then activate again classic widget plugin.
What seems not to work is displaying Lumière widget in admin, not the widget itself in frontpages. I installed classic widget and activated it, the widget still displays the movies automatically, should work for you as well.

    Changed to Block Editor

    Found Widget Code

    Copied It

    Back to Classic

    Went to Widgets

    Added Block to Menu

    Copied Lumiere code

    Saved

Looked at main page (nothing as expected)

Clicked on a post with a film title….and lo and behold, a widget in the menu about that particular movie.

    Great Stuff

I LOVE this plugin even more than I did before, if that is even possible.

    Thank You

How do I make sure it only calls the Movie referenced?

For instance, in my post for Call Jane, it has a film listed not related to the actual film Nowhere to Call Home: A Tibetan in Beijing (2014)

    Example

Glad it worked! I’ll try to find a more convenient solution.

Regarding your question, there is now way to make sure that the movie you want specifically will be found. It does a query on IMDb website and retrieves the first result. Since the purpose of that functionality is to not inpit any data, there is no other way to do. However, make sure your title is accurate: the movie “Call Jane” can’t be found when your title is “Call Jane in cinemas now”.

If that functionality is not precise enough, I’m afraid you’ll have to insert manually every movie using the manual widget, where you can add the movie’s IMDb ID and display exactly the movie you want.

    No problem.

    I’ll figure a way! ??

    I figured a way.

Instead of having Auto Widget enabled as such, so it doesn’t create the wrong information (as per example), I still have the Widget and Code in my menu and when posting, I put the movie info in the Lumiere Movies box in Add New/Edit Post and it appears in the posts menu.

So, really, it still works and gives me more control.

Happy you found a convenient solution!

I pushed a new version that fixes your initial issue and includes better explaination about auto-widget. Unfortunately, it doesn’t allow to use both the auto-widget and a specific movie in sidebars. This would require an entirely new process that would take a lot of time ??
