Widget not showing

It’s difficult to answer this, because although the widget might not be working for you, it does work for me and the only time it doesn’t show without error when there are no sub-categories that match the current situation and there is no way to see if this is the case from your site.

Do you have sub-categories for the category that you choose as the parent? Did you exclude any categories or hide empty categories?

Did you put the widget into a active widget area? Sometimes this is a reason for stuff not showing.

Thanks for replying so quickly! Yes it’s in an active area, on the right side with the rest of the widgets- it’s supposed to be showing up first, on top of the others. Yes, I have other sub-categories for the parent, and nope nothing was hidden or excluded.

OK so now that I realize that the widget doesn’t show at all if there are no sub-cats for the category, I think I can figure out the problem- Selecting “Use first category of post as parent” might not be working because my posts have multiple categories? (So which one is “first”?)

I will investigate further and come back with an update just to help anyone else out there with this problem. Thanks!

Yes, after testing I see that the issue was having multiple categories. so that ends that discussion.

For what it’s worth- I was hoping to use the widget for the pages where I’m actually pulling up a category of posts, as opposed to just viewing a post itself. It would be awesome if this widget could do this! (Maybe sometime in the future?)

I’m not sure what you mean – how do you want the widget to choose the parent?

Yes, you are correct about it not showing if there are no sub-categories and also that it is difficult to know which category will be chosen as the parent is there are multiple categories on a post – it uses the first one that it finds which may or may not work for you. It’s really only designed for posts will a single category.
