• As other posters have mentioned, testimonial lengths vary; having to include the entire text of a testimonial in a widget – which can look ridiculous – is really the only flaw I see in this plugin.

If you could add the option to limit text to a user-specified number of characters it would be really useful. There are a number of other testimonials plugins out there, most of which do have this option. But the couple I tried were poorly coded, poorly formatted, or both. Add a text limit and you’ve got the best of the bunch I’ve looked at.

If there is a php snippet I could use to do this myself for the time being I would appreciate it being shared here.

About the CSS: I personally prefer plain-vanilla or no CSS at all with plugins so that I can make them mesh well with my themes. I *like* that this plugin doesn’t have a bunch of unwanted styles I have to delete.

  • I’m looking for the same thing… I’d love the more tag to work so you can adjust exactly where you’d like the break to be.

Testimonials are pretty long and I don’t want to see them on the widget. If there is a way to do it, please share with us.

Have you considered setting up a new testimonial category, then adding your custom shortened testimonials to that. You can then simply use the widget to display the new category of shortened testimonials.

This feature is really needed. Many of Woo new themes use this plug-in on the home page, and there isn’t any way to set an excerpt length.

We found that if you add the standard <!–more–> tag to your testimonials, it’ll show an excerpt in the testimonial widget, but just as an FYI, we’ve had only some success with it. For us, it works on the homepage only, and then still shows the full testimonial on other pages for some reason (that’s using the Canvas theme).

    Agreed +1

Agreed here too! A character limit setting would be needed. I’m using Testimonials in a Genesis child theme and the <!–more –> tag has no effect. I’m calling it in PHP in Otto’s PHP Code Widget.

If using this in the widget the <!–more–> tag as mentioned above should work.

However, if using the <!–more–> and calling the testimonial content via the shortcode on any page it will not work.

To get around this you might be able to do the following as mentioned in this post on the “Woothemes Our Team” support thread:

    “Read More” Link – Solution

In the snippet given on that page (found in woothemes-testimonials-template.php) you would simply replace woothemes_our_team_content with woothemes_testimonials_content
