Widget layout

Is it possible for the layout to be changed for the widget. At the moment events are displayed vertically, date on left with title to the right. Looks fine in a sidebar.
I want to place a widget, for example, at the top of the page with upcoming events scrolling through similar to a new ticker and ideally with smaller icons.
