widget editor broken

    I just accessed my dashboard to edit my widgets and yikes. Some new block functionality has been added to WordPress 5.8.1? And now when I click on Appearances -> Widgets everything explodes — my whole site crashed at one point. Flood of error messages on my dashboard. Most are along these lines:

    <<The “text” block was affected by errors and may not function properly. Check the developer tools for more details.>>

    Also a scattering of 500 internal server errors.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Thoughts on the cause?
