    Hi all.

    I’m using WP 2.2, theme WuCoco 0.10.01
I had been having difficulty uploading the “recent comments” widget (I’d upload it to my host but it wouldn’t show in my WP plugins admin panel) but now that my host has supplied WP 2.2 in their “one click” upgrade, I proceeded to do so last night.

Now, I get the drag and drop widgets page, but when I drop the “recent comments” Widget into either sidebar, all the other information in that sidebar disappears. The widget functions perfectly, but all my other stuff cannot be seen.

When I remove the Widget, the information and formatting looks as before.

Oddly enough, while the Widget is in place, I can look into the sidebar code and all the other stuff still shows despite not being visible, and no code for the Widget appears.

  • With the advent of Verson 2.2, where widgets are native, you should delete the old widget plugin completely.

In addition, themes are usually coded to either show the content as dictated by the widgets, or the content as dictated by the sidebar.php. As an example, the WordPress Default 1.6 theme, if you drag in just one widget, then that is the only thing in the sidebar, but if you have no widgets, then all that information Pages, Links, Categories is controlled by the sidebar.php file in that theme.

Mine is run by the Sidebar.php file. Should I use an alternate manner of introducing the “Recent Comments” widget? Here is my blog- I want to add it to my left column (sidebar 2 in the drag and drop) below the audio player.

Widgets generally replace your sidebars entirely. It’s an either/or situation. If you want to use Widgets, then you’ll need to recreate your entire sidebar using Widgets.

So… I would need to add the proper text, etc; widgets along with the others and rebuild what’s there already?

Yes. If you’re migrating your site to use widgets, then that’s just something you need to do. Use widgets instead of what you had before, which was non-widgets.

It worked!! Thank you very much Otto42, you’ve saved the day! Thank you for your clear, concise explanation. ??

    https://thegospelshowonevoice.com/Pieces/ Here it is.

Can anyone tell me what I messed up that caused me to lose my “Recent Comments Widget?

I know it is probably simple, but I have been searching and comparing two blogs and I can’t figure out what I did to lose it.

Thanks in advance for any help.
