Widget boxes disappeared on Widgets page & can’t get to Customize

  • I went to the Widgets page to edit the information in one of the Custom HTML boxes and all the widgets I’d set up have disappeared. They show up on the website but I can’t access them. When I click on the link to “Manage with Live Preview”, I’m taken to a Google Analytics page. https://competition.stcwdc.org/wp-admin/customize.php?autofocus%5Bpanel%5D=widgets&return=%2Fwp-admin%2Fwidgets.php and all it has on it at the very top is Edit widget: Google Analytics Stats | Edit Add Google Analytics Stats |
    Google Analytics Stats. I get the same thing when I try to go to Appearance / Customize. I can’t get to anything in Customize. Next I tried the Screen Options and Help tabs at the top and they are dead. I logged out of each site, cleared cache and history and tried to get to the widgets again but I still get the Google stuff.

    I checked my four other sites and they all have the same problem. What has happened?

    This sounds like either outdated WordPress code, a plugin interference or a theme interference.

    Backup your site and database before doing the following steps:

    1. Check to see if WordPress, plugins or themes needs updates in Dashboard > Updates.

    2. Change the theme to another WordPress default version such as Twenty* and see if the widget areas come back.

    All the plugins are up-to-date. There was one that updated recently. I deactivated it and no change. I switched themes to Twenty Eleven and that did not bring the widgets back or let me get to the Customize menu.

    I switched back to my theme and deactivated the Google Analytics plugin. That gave me back the widgets and the ability to get to the Customize menu. Google Analytics wasn’t updated recently but somehow it is affecting all my websites without being updated. Odd.
