Widen Content, Move Widgets Right

  • WP novice, so perhaps I’ve dug myself into a little hole. I took this maicha blog theme and have been playing around the edges to get the look I want.

    The one thing I can’t seem to figure out…I want the content wider + push the sidebar to the right so it is roughly underneath the search bar. You can see in OTC Adventures, everything basically aligns…as it should. Is this doable or would you recommend I start from scratch on a basic template?

  • Most responsive themes, nowadays, are based on a 12 column grid, where the page is divided into 12 columns and each part of the page is assigned different numbers of columns depending upon what proportion the developer sees fit.

    For the OTC Adventures page, it uses a theme called Brunelleschi, which uses 9 columns for the main content and 3 columns for the sidebar.

    The theme you are using, Maicha Blog, uses 8 columns for the main content and 4 columns for the sidebar. So you can see that proportionally, there is less room allocated for the content versus the sidebar.

    Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Brunelleschi theme is being offered anymore, or I would have suggested trying that. There is a support page for the theme, but it doesn’t look like the theme itself is available, so it looks like it got taken down.

    And, unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to search for a theme based on the number of columns it allocates to the main content versus the sidebar (that would be nice!), so you may have to just try out a bunch of themes until you find one that fits what you’re looking for.

    Thanks CrouchingBruin for your reply. I had a feeling you’d say something like this. Frustrating that I am so close to where I want to be, but it looks like I’ll go searching for a new theme

    @crouchingbruin if I accept the content the way it is..can I still move the sidebar text a little to the right? Any shift would be an improvement. Just want to create some distance from the content
