Why wpautop wrapping in the return statement?

  • What is the purpose of the wpautop in your plugin. I mean, in this line:
    return wpautop( do_shortcode( $content ) );
    It is causing output issues for me (creating extra paragraph elements), but I’m guessing it is there for a reason?
