A student sent me a screenshot of some recent files that had been changed. The addresses were of the pattern: wp-content/uploads/wc-logs/unknown-2024-01-10-43b4e891e2de182a147a7e858be03864.log

He was wondering why the file name contains “unknown”. I was not able to find an answer for him through various searches.

  • Hi there @marjoriesdaughter, thank you for reaching out!

The filename you’re seeing, specifically the “unknown” part, is likely related to how WordPress tracks and logs certain events on the website. When WordPress can’t identify the source of the event, it may label it as “unknown”. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as a plugin or theme function operating in a way that WordPress can’t fully recognize.

Please note that this is normal and doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem. However, if you notice any unusual activity or functionality on your site, please let us know so we can assist further.
