Why will the theme images not change?

    I have been in the images folder for the theme (local installation) and modified them,saved them as the same name however when the theme page is viewed there is no change! I want to know how to do this as the next image to change is the sponsors! Aplogies, please give clear answers as im really new to wordpress!!!
