• I have inserted at least 3 times the icon beside the address in the navigation bar because it has also disappeared as many times. How can that be? Is there a way WP do not delete it? It is my impression it has been automatically deleted every time there was an update.

    Thanks,

    Lluís

  • Where are you putting the favicon file? If you are putting it in a WordPress core folder it probably is getting deleted on upgrade, like most everything else.

You can put the favicon elsewhere and direct your the browser to it. Here’s a fairly comprehensive, WordPress focussed, favicon tutorial: https://www.artofblog.com/understanding-favicons/

Hah!!! Glad you have a link, GRAQ. ?? I was going to have to look for one or write it out myself.

apljdi – The WordPress upgrade DOES NOT delete files you add (it can’t – it can ONLY delete files it knows about and is specifically told to delete read How the WP Upgrade Works for more on that). You can safely put a favicon.ico file in the same folder as your .htaccess and it will automagically work for your site. I do it for every site I make, works perfectly.
