• Can someone please explain, I have the option to give a stock quantity, so what is the point of stock status as well?

I have a stock of 50 so obviously it is in stock, why choose that also?

Then when the last one is sold, the stock has reduced to 0, so obviously it is out of stock. Am I suppose to wait for it to get to 0 then manually have to choose “Out of Stock” from the dropdown selection???

    Confused.

  • Not sure, but that’s never stopped me.

    If you go to:
Dashboard > WooCommerce > Settings > Products tab > Inventory
you can choose to have WooCommerce manage your stock or not.

If you don’t have manage stock checked, then you would manually set your stock status as in-stock or not. This might depend on what you are selling outside the WooCommerce system. The number in stock won’t matter, WC will ignore it.

If you do have manage stock checked, then WooCommerce will work with your stock quantity. No need for you to bother with the dropdown. Your site won’t be able to sell anything which has no stock.

Another scenario is if you have “backorders allowed” checked. This would apply if you can get fresh stock in a reasonable time. In this case, the stock quantity could go down to 0, but the product will be in-stock and the site can sell. If you then find you can’t get stock quickly, you must set out-of-stock manually.
