• I am a beginner in the world of WordPress. I have noticed one thing.
Some plugins do not work on certain hosting providers.
I have to host from GoDaddy (the cheapest one). I was trying to build a website there with Elementor, I have downloaded Elementor, installed the Astra theme and a Starter Templates plugin. But the Starter Plugin just doesn’t work! It does not go further than the page builder selection menu.

Then I bought the cheapest hosting from Hostinger and this plugin works there without any problems. But with Hostinger I have another issue! UpdraftPlus plugin does not work there. It just never finishes the backup process, the progress bar just stuck in 30% and that’s it. This plugin works in another hosting that I own too.

Why is this? Why some plugins do not work on some hosting providers? I wrote to support of those providers but they told me that this is not their fault and something is wrong with the plugin (which is not true, because the same plugin works fine on my another website which just has another hosting)

  • Depends on the plugins… some plugins are built by hosting providers to work with their services and configurations only. Also, many plugins will not work in a windows configuration and GoDaddy tends to default to windows configurations last time I checked.

    Hope this helps.

Different hosting providers may have different “default” server settings or parameters. You should be checking the system requirements of each plugin and make sure they are active on your server.

For example certain plugin may require a specific PHP version, settings or extensions that are not enabled on your server. In case of your UpdraftPlus plugin it could simply mean that the maximum execution time of your scripts is too low.

If you look through the error or debug logs, you should be able to find more information why your plugin is not working properly. You can then contact your hosting provider and ask them to make the necessary changes on your server as required by your plugins.
