Why replacing “WP User Avatar” by “ProfilePress” is not a good idea
-
A lot of users are not very happy with the fact, that the small and great plugin “WP User Avatar” for uploading profile photos has been replaced by a completely different plugin for managing user profiles. ?Even if ProfilePress is a good and useful plugin, I think it is not a good idea to foist a completely new plugin on users. Here is why:
- Users may already use another plugin with similar functions. This may lead to conflicts and broken websites.
- Security critical features like login, registration, access role management etc. should not be added without a clear information in advance.
- Users will roll back to WP User Avatar version 2.2.16 and will keep using this version, which won’t get any more fixes, if needed.
- Users will lose trust in plugin auto-updates and stop using this great core feature. This is certainly not the intention of the WordPress community and maybe this is the most important point.
I think it would have been better to keep WP User Avatar and show an invitation to test the new (and separate) plugin ProfilePress.?
