Hi Dalton and Pierre,
WPTC being an incremental backup solution, the plugin needs to be checking for changes on your website on a timely basis. We need to ping your WordPress sites to take a backup of the site. Instead of using a Cron, we manually ping the websites.
?So in order to do this, we need a separate server to act like a cron service which will ping the sites often to take the backups.
?To be accurate about which site belongs to which user and to have a system to schedule backups, we require each user to sign up with a wptc account so that the user data can be mapped to that specific account.
If you grow to rely on this service, that would be a good thing for us. Why would be shut down when we will have tons of users relying upon us to backup their websites?
Don’t worry about this Dalton, we are here to stay. WP Time Capsule is built by the same team that built InfiniteWP. We have been in the WordPress market for 5 years and we are here to stay.
Just in case, you still have that miniscule speck of doubt that we may shut down, then we have a solution for you.
All your websites will be backed up without any compression or zipping. So the files on Dropbox or Amazon will be available in the same fashion that you have your website built. You just need to use this solution to restore your website even when WPTC plugin is not running or active on your WordPress site: https://docs.wptimecapsule.com/article/9-restoring-a-website-that-is-down
Hope this helps ??
