Why not implement captions for tagged images?

I have made some changes to the code in order to get tagged images with captions: use [nggtags gallery=’tag_selection’ template=caption]
This worked fine until the last update (I copied 2 files after the updates and it worked again). But with the last update it does not work anymore. So code must have been changed in a way my changes will not work anymore.The changes I made are from an article : https://howden.net.au/thowden/2012/12/nextgen-gallery-wordpress-nggtags-template-caption-option/
Why not implement this in your code?
