Why loading jQuery on front-end?

  • Hi guys,

    My website doesn’t use jQuery at all. No theme, no plugin uses it.

    But I’ve always had jQuery loaded on the website front-end. I was wondering why and started to toggle plugins to see which is could cause the issue.

    I was really surprised to find SG Optimizer doing this! (I’m on SiteGround hosting.)
    Could you please explain why you are loading jQuery on website front-end (even when user is logged out)?
    Is there any way I can disable it in the plugin to optimize the website?
    Which optimization module is using jQuery so I know for the future and can decide whether it is useful or not?

    …is there any other “optimization” surprise I can expect? ??

    We do not load jQuery, it has been loaded by WordPress when a script is using it. It is used by the Lazy Loading functionality and WP is loading it which is expected behaviour. You can defer it at this point or disable the Lazy Loading functionality and rely on the WordPress default one.

    I am not sure why Lazy Load is triggering the enqueue of jQuery since it’s not necessary. We will release a maintenance patch once we perform some that and that should not happen.
