I have WordPress installed on my site. And when I try to make a simple change it won’t always do it. Sometimes I won’t see the change until I log out of my admin account, and sometimes it won’t make the change to my site at all even though it shows in my Admin account that I have made the change. And sometimes when I make a change I don’t like and I go back and remove it in the Admin account it still shows on my website. Basically, I can not make any of the changes that I want to make because WordPress is acting really screwy. Any idea what is going on here?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

That didn’t help. I also tried a different browser which also didn’t help.

I can go into widgets for example, and click on categories which I have in my sidebar, and check any of the three options:

    Display as drop down
    show post counts
    show hierarchy

and save the changes. But, when I go to my domain the changes haven’t changed. A couple of times I saw that it only changed after I logged of my account and went to my domain. And a few times I’ve seen it get stuck on something like “display as drop down” and I can’t get it back to just a list.

I’m new to WordPress and building a website so I need to do some experimenting to see what different things will look like, but unfortunately it’s kind of hard when the things keep getting stuck or won’t change.

Still sounds like a caching issue. Are you using a cache plugin? If so, clear its cache and then disable it while you make changes to your site. Alternatively, is your web host serving cached pages? You can clear that at your hosting account.

After doing the above, still remember to clear (and/or disable) your browser cache again as well.

I deleted all cache – cookies, history and everything else in my browsers. I don’t have any cache plugin, I’ve actually never heard of such a plugin. My host is Hostgator, do you know if they serve cached pages whatever that means?

I can say that I am building a site for the first time so I am new to Hostgator. I’ve only been with them for like a week, so wouldn’t think they’re would be much cache there.

Sorry, I wouldn’t know about your web host. Best to check with them. Some of them like to serve cached pages to lighten their server loads.

My web host (Hostgator) told me the problem has to do with a plugin that I have called WP Super Cache. They said it’s best to leave it installed but that I have to go into this plugin and click the delete cache button after every change I make.

It’s odd that I never seen anybody talk about this plugin on any of the tutorials that I’ve watched. But, I think this problem might be resolved.

Is this a popular plugin? I have never heard of it. It seems like the opposite of a super cache if I have to delete the cache after each change that I make.

That’s a very popular plugin. You should read the description and FAQ pages to familiarize yourself with how it works (and how a cache works in general).

As mentioned above, clear the cache and then disable the plugin when you’re making changes. Re-activate it when you’re done tweaking things. If you’re just adding new pages or posts, you shouldn’t need to do any of that since the new material hasn’t (probably) been cached yet.

I don’t use this plugin, so refer to their documentation for best usage. A caching plugin can help speed up a site quite a bit depending on the site’s content, but as you see there can be kinks as well.
