• Can someone tell me why the uploads directory is never created?

I always have to manually create this myself ??

Would it be a security loop hole if the WP installation created the directory?
I think of any good reason why it shouldn’t be created?

    Thanks

    Omar

  • I’ve never had to manually create it but make sure the path to it is correct in Settings > Miscellaneous

My guess would be that because the path to “uploads” is user configurable, having WordPress create it on installation would be counter productive, if the users choice is to alter the path prior to the directory creation.

[EDIT] …and wordpress will create it for you if the parent directory is writable.

I think the first time you try to upload something WP creates the folder if it isn’t there.

Depends on your host and file permissions. Some host situations may need you to set your file permissions and make your wp-content, wp-content/plugins, wp-content/themes folders to 755 or even 777. Sometimes the same needs to happen to wp-content/uploads.
