I’ve just moved my wordpress blog onto a new dedicated server (from shared hosting). Now I seem to be having a problem, there is a plugin that needs to be updated, Now when I click Update from the Plugins Page it asks for FTP details which never happened on my shared hosting… it would simply do the upgrade.

I tried upgrading using FTP, but thats failing aswell.
I dont want to be upgrading via FTP, I want it to do it through HTTP how it normally does.

Can someone help me figure out what the problem can be?

I have made sure the upgrade and plugins directory are CHMOD’d to 755

You might want to try changing the owner of those directories to whatever the webserver runs as too, if they’re not already.

How would I change the owner for the directories to the same ones the web server runs? I believe that its possible using ssh but is there any other alternatives, Im a complete noob with ssh.

Not my strong point either! Try chown though.

First of all how do I find out the owner that the webserver runs?
