• I had to kill off W3 Total Cache from my Thailand travel blog because the settings were causing the header and footer to fail to load. Now it’s redirecting all calls to /wp-admin/install.php. I have checked htaccess and there’s nothing in there which would cause this redirection. I have also checked wp-config.php and it’s OK too. All code inserted into both these files by W3TC has been removed.

So what else could be causing this redirection? Does W3TC write into the Options table of WP? Where should I look next? I don’t have access to a file system backup where I am, but I could restore the database if necessary.

  • It doesn’t redirect when I try it. Flush your browser cache.

Thanks for taking a look but by then I had restored the file system from my test site and got it working again. I tried different browsers and different PCs and I was also getting downtime warnings from my site monitoring agent.

I’d still like to know how to fix this in case it happens again. I have switched to Quick Cache and WP Minify for now but I’d still like to be using W3 Total Cache and Cloudflare CDN in the future. The problem happened when I tried to specify particular JS and CSS files for minification. It dropped the headers and footers from the site and when I tried to disable caching while I fixed it, the whole site went to 403 errors.
