Why is “Location base” payment option removed?

That setting was removed in favor of the new Stripe method of determining what payment methods are available based on location, currency, etc. https://stripe.com/docs/connect/payment-method-available-countries

Stripe will determine what methods are shown to each customer automatically, with no need for you do manual setup like the older method.

If that setting was something you want added back into the plugin, I’d recommend you add your ideas to the Ideas Board (https://ideas.woocommerce.com/forums/133476-woocommerce), which is where developers go to look for future plugin features and improvements.

I understand the logic of that but it seems to be made by developers who aren’t using the plugin for their store. Now I have to deactivate lots of payments options for my customers because I don’t want to show 10 different payment options to all my customers.

If you want to conditionally offer payment gateways to your customers based on coutry then you can do that by using an extension called Conditional Shipping and Payments.

This extension lets you specify what payment and shipping methods should be displayed based on a wide range of criteria.

I just saw that the choice by country is available thanks to WPML WooCommerce which adds a field to display or hide the gateways in a list of pre-defined countries
