    Dear JetPack Dev Team,

I recently added JetPack Publicize to my blog, in order to automatically post new articles on both my Facebook and Google+ pages. Everything went well, but one thing. On each platform, a disgraceful link such as https://mysite.com/?p=1234 was added to the text of the post.

IMHO this is totally unnecessary since the link to the article was already correctly transformed by Facebook and Google+ in a nicely rendered piece of news, as it is usually the case when sharing info by clicking on a “Like” or “+1” button on a third-party website.

Thanks in advance for your attention.

    Best regards,

    David.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Unfortunately, that’s indeed one of the limitations of the way Publicize pushes posts to Facebook. We send data to Facebook, and Facebook handles the display; if we’ve added a link to the message we sent to Facebook, a post preview will be generated, as with every update you post on Facebook. Unfortunately, we have no way of either removing the URL once the data has been processed by Facebook, or send the URL as metadata that Facebook would use to generate a post preview, even if the message itself didn’t include a URL.

I’m afraid there is easy way around that from what I can see. We haven’t given up on this though. Once we implement custom templates for Publicize, we’ll see if there is a way to make this happen!

I hope this clarifies things a bit!

That’s indeed a bug in Jetpack. It should be displaying the full permalink instead of the default shortlink.

Could you go to Jetpack > Settings in your dashboard, and enable the WP.me Shortlinks module?

We’ll get that bug fixed soon. I’ll let you know when it’s done. Until then, keeping WP.me Shortlinks should be a good work-around.

Thanks a lot Jeremy for these explanations!

I followed your advice and activated the WP.me Shortlinks module. I will let you know if I encounter other issues.

    Thanks again for your help!
