    Hi,
On a news site with 1000’s of old articles that I bulk delete w/ “WP Bulk Delete” plugin, I then run Media Cleaner plugin to get rid of left-over orphaned media image files.

Only problem is any time I run Media Cleaner it deletes the site favicon (wp theme site identity setting) and the theme header images being used.

Is it not possible to restrict Media Cleaner to remove files that were only previously associated with posts or pages that have been deleted?

    Thanks

    Hi @wordmax,

Sorry, I have totally missed your message.

Is it not possible to restrict Media Cleaner to remove files that were only previously associated with posts or pages that have been deleted?

You can’t know which images were previously linked to a post. You can only know the state as of now, which is: they seem to be used, or they don’t seem to be used.

In the case of the favicon, it’s tricky as it depends on how the theme was implemented. If you look at the tutorial of Media Cleaner here: https://meowapps.com/media-cleaner-tutorial/, you will read this:

    2. Verify. There might be false-positive in those results, particularly images used by the theme directly, such as the logos, headers, etc. Look for them, and if they are part of those results, select them and click Ignore. They will never be deleted by the plugin

Favicons and headers are part of that, yes ?? That’s why I mentioned about them in the tutorial. It’s impossible to know how they are used or I would need to implement manually (by installing and looking into the code of) ten of thousands of themes.
