    Hi!

I have a post description with green lights from the Yoast plugin, I am using my target keyword and everything else is fine, yet Google is showing the intro of my post, not the description.

Why is that and what can I do to have my description show up in search results?

    Thanks!
    Carlos.

Can you please provide us with an example URL of where the issue is occurring?

Whereas Google typically uses the meta description from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify or ignore the meta description when it sees fit. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google using another value for the meta description it indexes as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index. We have additional information on this here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages/. If Google is ignoring the meta description you have created for a page and creating it’s own description based off the page’s content, we would recommend creating a new meta description that reflect’s the page’s content. We have an article on how to write clean and meaningful meta description for your pages and posts by following the steps given in this guide. https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

The URL is this one: https://www.carlosazuaje.com/dieta-cetogenica/

I was afraid to hear that, as I was kind of expecting it. However, Google’s choice for the meta description is actually not a good choice. The one I wrote better serves the user and better describes the content of my article.

If it’s not a problem with the plugin, is there anything else that I can do to force Google to pick up my description? Also, after I change my description I should request a new crawl, correct? Is this the right way to do it?

    Thanks.

Using the cache search variable, we confirmed the following:

Your site’s source code shows the description as:
?Qué es la dieta cetogénica? ?Da resultados? ?Cuáles son sus beneficios y sus desventajas? ?Qué alimentos se comen? ?Deberías hacerla? Todo esto… y más.

Google cached this description (here) but has decided to use a different one (here).

Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is nothing you can do to force Google to display the preferred description.

After updating your description, it can take up to a week for Google to index the changes you made, depending on how often your website is crawled.

Sometimes you can speed up this process as described in this KB: Fetch as Googlebot

Thank you very much for your support!

If I request a crawl instead of waiting for it, how long should I wait to see if Google has updated my new description?

Depends on how fast Google’s cache updates but typically within a few hours. Sometimes up to a day or two.
