This is only a technical curiosity question.

FTP takes all day to upload a couple dozen plugins to a website.

Server-to-server connection from any WordPress installation to the www.remarpro.com servers for downloading themes and plugins directly to our sites is super fast, like instant fast.

Why is that? Why the hell is the industry standard tool (FTP) so ridiculously life wastingly slow when such speeds are allowed for 3rd party server downloads, but not my hard-drive’s uploads?

What the BLEEP is standing in our FTP way?!

  • FTP? You should be asking your host about FTP issues. WordPress isn’t involved in FTP where you are using an FTP client to upload a file directly to your server.

WordPress is involved in that we can use FPT to upload files to our installations.
You can use an FTP client anywhere or any one (be it FileZilla, or your cPanel onboard FTP).

The point is, that whatever FTP you use, you’ll be waiting and waiting and waiting! It’s so ridiculously slow!

    The question is “Why?”.

WordPress’ inbuilt plugin and theme installers are able to get the same files uploaded to you server in a heartbeat.

Why is in built plugin downloading so much faster than FTP plugin uploading?

WordPress pulls from www.remarpro.com directly to your site. FTP is pushing from your PC to the site. Two different paths, so two potentially different speeds. This is a hosting issue or and ISP issue, not a WordPress issue.

Really? Because I’ve used FTP with many different hosts from GoDaddy to BlueHost and HostGator. All big names, and the FTP speed was not noticeably any different between them. All hosts and servers have the sames speed from a user experience perspective (at least for me, over the years). I’m trying to inquire as to the technological difference. Is the www.remarpro.com-to-ExampleSite.com connection also an FTP file transfer or is it some other technology?

I’m not complaining about one FTP being slow. I’m complaining about all FTP being slow compared to site-to-site transfers.

…and wondering why there seems to be a difference.

Does that make better sense now?

It uses curl to make an https connection to www.remarpro.com.
