• Hey there,

I’m wondering: What are the advantages and disadvantages of installing WP to the root vs. a subfolder?

I’m starting my website with a blog, but want to expand it later to include other non-blog content. This suggests I should use a subfolder and redirect from the front page to the blog page until the rest of the site is up.

On the other hand, I’m concerned that doing this will mess up my search engine optimization, and make it harder for my blog to get noticed. Is this true? What are my options?

    Thanks,
    Anekanta

  • You are starting wp in a subfolder, are you planning then to move it to main folder ever? Then you will have a lot of 404’s, as old links will not work

if you are not gonna move ever, there NO disadvantage of a subfolder..

If you are planning put some other contents on the root of your web site, I suggest you to install wordpress in sub-folder.

Then you will have a lot of 404’s, as old links will not work

that is simply not true if moved properly

also, you can use wp for just about anything
you can have a static front page with posts assigned to a blog page – you can have as many static pages as you want in fact
