• I am facing one of the weirdest problem with my websites. I bought 3 different themes from themeforest.com and a shared hosting package from Hostgator.com. After installing the theme I tried to upload the Demo content through .XML files from WordPress importer but after loading for several times it gave 500 Internal Server Error. I contacted HostGator and they me this;

The MySQL queries for the above-mentioned databases are getting killed by the server which is causing the intermittent issue with the site loading.

Please note that, the long_query_time set for the MySQL service is 20 seconds. Since it is a shared server, we can’t alter this values for single domain. Alternatively, you can switch to our VPS package, where you can set custom limits for your domain.

I looked for other solution and was told that I should Increase the php limit and php.ini so I even tried that but no luck. After this I thought there has to be a problem so I switched from Hostgator to another hosting provider.

This time the file does upload but it’s all messed up. It takes very long time to upload and in the end tells that

    failed to import “this file”
    failed to import “this file”

I thought maybe it’s happening with one specific file but when I checked several different .XML file of other different themes I face this same issue.

In the end I thought maybe I should Switch to VPS after which I will be able to import demo XML file but No luck.

I have no Idea why it’s happening to me but it’s very very frustrating

  • Hi Nick,
I am sorry you are experiencing problems with xml import. If a query takes too long to run, or too much memory, or too much cpu power, the shared hosting server may kill the process.

You may try WP All Import and reduce the number of records per iteration until the script can run. some users have reported success on shared servers using WP all import. WP All import breaks up big files into smaller ones to speed up the import process. it is worth trying.

I have VPS hosting package but it’s still not working properly.

I also tried WP All import but it’s too confusion for me and the support staff doesn’t help. I uploaded the .XML file through WP All import but after that I have no idea how to proceed.

There’s a tutorial for how to import existing website but not a tutorial on How to import content on a fresh website.

    Hi Nick,

What specific questions or difficulties did you have with the import? I know something about WP All Import and have actually written a plugin to extend its functions. Please post your questions here and I will see how to help.

    best regards.

Ok! I have uploaded a step by step process I am doing to upload the xml file.

    View post on imgur.com

My site is completely new and have no content whatsoever. When I upload the XML file it asks me to import 207 items. I simply select new pages from the drop down menu. Once the import is complete it imports 207 pages with same title and no content.

Here’s the theme I have bought

    HI there,

The xml seems to be a collection of photos and formatted differently from normal pages. could you try importing again? this time choose “update pages” rather than create new. please scroll down in step 3 and look for something meaningful in English, drag the element and drop to the title and content area.

It did imported all the pages and posts but the content withing those pages is missing, it’s completely blank. It converted every item into an individual page.

This is how the site looks like currently https://imgur.com/0rjStpX

While with WordPress importer I am able to upload the files now after switching to VPS but it takes quite a long time which corrupts many files and data.
