• I notice that the Classic header.php file ends with the </div> for the header and then initiates the <div> for the content.

    This seems a bit odd, wouldn’t it be more reasonable for the header, sidebar etc to simply start and end their own divs?

    I ask mainly because I suspect there is a good structural reason for this, and that I don’t “get it” for an important WP architectural idea.

  • I always assumed it was more for practical reasons.

    If you assume that every type of page is likely to include a content div, amending the theme by adding a class to that div – or placing a wrapper div around it – is much easier if it’s only in 1 place (header.php) rather than in the individual files
