Can someone please explain why the the Yoast ‘Focus keyphrase’ doesn’t show up on any SEO audit applications or services?

I’ve tried Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Semrush, Sitebulb and others, and they all pickup other meta data like the ‘Meta Description’ and ‘SEO Title’, but never the ‘Focus keyphrase’.

Can someone explain why this is? If the ‘Focus keyphrase’ isn’t being picked up in SEO audits, is it even relevant?

    Hello @bunyip,

Thanks for your question but the support team of the respective services are in a better position to answer. Yoast SEO doesn’t control what those services fetch and audit on your website.

Actually I’ve discovered that the answer is simply that the focus keyphrase isn’t even used for SEO.

You can see for yourself in the Yoast metadata on a web page if you right-click on the page and select ‘View page source’. The ‘Meta description’ is there, but no keyphrase/keywords. So there is nothing there for SEO audit services to pickup.

From what I’ve found online, the focus keyphrase is simply a way for the Yoast plugin to ‘rate’ your website – but it doesn’t help with SEO.
