why does communicate.asp get so many hits?

  • My analytics always shows a lot of hits to
    communicate.asp

    what is this?

    I can find no mention of this file on the whole internet!!!!

  • .asp is the file extension for “Active Server Pages”, a programming language one can use on Windows-based servers. It has nothing to do with WordPress, though, which is built with a different programming language, namely PHP.

    If you don’t have this file on your server (you can check via FTP), then this is just “Analytics spam”. Yes, there are people out there that report page visits for pages they never visited (and that may not even be there).

    A lot of this spam can be filtered away if you only look at hits where your domain is correctly indicated in the relevant fields.
