• Title kinda says it all.
I am running and have been running wordpress sites for years and finally decided to give jetpack a try, why do i need a wordpress.com account?
wordpress.com asks me how i want my site to look, i already have “my site” the way i want it to look…

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

    Thanks for reaching out!

That can indeed be a bit confusing.

You will need a WordPress.com account, but you won’t need a WordPress.com site. As you’ve mentioned, you don’t need another site, you’ve already got one!

Jetpack requires a WordPress.com account because many of the Jetpack features (like Photon, Stats, Related Posts, or Protect) rely on the WordPress.com cloud. Instead of using your own site’s resources to do resource-heavy things like calculating Stats, indexing all your content to find Related Posts, or serving lots of images, Jetpack, thanks to the connection to WordPress.com, will start offloading those activities to our servers at WordPress.com.

I hope this clarifies things a bit. You can create a WordPress.com account here.
