• Just two of my client sites auto-updated to WordPress 4.3 and I was wondering why. I didn’t think this was a version that would auto-update.

Hm… both pretty new and on Hostgator. Would they be updating WordPress core?

    Security scan reports are clean.

    Thank you for your thoughts

By default WordPress automatically updates minor versions of core (4.2.4, 4.2.2, 3.x.x). I would check to see if something like define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true ); is in your wp-config.php. If so you should just be able to remove that and it will not automatically update major WordPress versions again.

I have never used Hostgator but they could very well have added that define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true ); code to your wp-config.php by default or something. YOu may want to contact them if you can’t find anything to do with automatic updates in your wp-config.php.

BlueHost recently added that to cPanel, so maybe look for “WordPress Tools” or something similar there.

    Matthew,
I don’t want to turn off WordPress Core updates but I don’t want the host to be updating things when it is not an automatic update. I would have taken much more precaution with 4.3.

    leejosepho,
thanks… I will be looking for something like that. They both have Mojo is involved – not a fan.

That’s what I was talking about. You may have something in your wp-config.php that is automatically updating major versions of WordPress also.

If you have any sort of managed WP hosting, you should have gotten an email and then upgraded. It’s what we do ??

I can’t speak for HostGator, but if you ask them “Hey do you do WordPress updates?” they’ll be able to say yes or no ??
