I am using wordpress for a company blog (hosted on our domain). I want to invite users to write for our blog, but the option does not appear under my “Users” menu. From other support info it seems like I should have this option. However, I’m wondering if it’s not available for self-hosted sites?

  • It is not.

You might be able to find an invite plugin which adds this functionality into your blog.

Ahhh ok, bummer. Thanks so much for your help!

I attempted to add an existing WordPress.com user to my self hosted site and it said they are already registered, yet I cannot invite them to become a contributor. A suggested plugin advice would be really useful.

Having checked a number of forums on this topic, there seems to be some demand for the option to invite users on a wp.org site as there is on a wp.com one. But the responses from wp come across as a bit dismissive each time, not unlike the one above. The question is why – why is it not possible to have this option on wp.org? The various plug-ins relating to managing users appear to focus on existing users inviting other users, not the administrator alone – I can’t find one that does the simple job that the wp.com does. Please explain!
