I have tried this plugin in the past but now it does not work on any of my sites. While editing a page it says,

“Whoops! It looks like your website is currently password protected. The free version of Accessibility Checker can only scan live websites. To scan this website for accessibility problems either remove the password protection or upgrade to pro. Scan results may be stored from a previous scan.”

My sites are NOT password protected.

    Hi again @johnstaples,

I have been able to test the plugin using a subfolder style install and the metabox appears and the scan of a page completes. I can also see the frontend highlighter widget on the page so I am still not certain what is happening on your site that is preventing it from working, especially since you have gone through the steps in the general troubleshooting guide.

Can you double check for me that pretty permalinks are enabled and working by visiting the permalinks page in the dashboard and clicking to save them (which will run a flush permalinks routine and reset the rewrite rules to defaults).

    Thanks @williampatton

I just tried this and it did not resolve the issue.

    Hey @johnstaples,

I appologies for the long delay between my replies here. I have tried a bunch of times to replicate this issue across sites and am not able to reproduce this exact problem you are facing or find a solution for it.

Is there any possibility that you could provide some more in depth server information or configuration for me that may help guide what we can do to get this working for you? Some of that information may not be something that you would be wanting to post in a public forum so I have had a form setup on the company website that you sould share it through. Let me know if you want to do that and I can provide a link to that form and tell you some of the details of what may be valuable for me to replicate your exact situation locally.

It’s probably nothing, but I noticed on the second screenshot. The URL in the browser says HTTPS (with s), but the url in the block editor page settings, says HTTP (without s).

Not sure if it affects EDAC, but inconsistencies like this, can cause weird issues but are easy to fix.

It has been a while since there has been a response on this thread from the opener so I am going to mark it as resolved – but if it still needs some action let me know and I will reopen the thread.

@oldrup good spotting on the http vs https mismatch. I have taken a note to test if that actually was the root of the issue here.

    Nope, Def not resolved.

    Just to recount…

    • I created a test site that is an exact duplicate of my live site
    • I then updated WordPress and all plugins on the TEST site to be sure no issues and it was clean
    • I then updated WordPress and all plugins on the LIVE site and it was clean
    • I then installed EDAC on both sites
    • It works on the test site but does NOT work properly on the live site
    • both sites are on the same hosting with the same versions of php and same setups of everything

Full details start on the previous page with my post that begins with “Hi! Me again!”

Oh and the issue @oldrup reported is not related to this problem as that site was not involved in the testing for this specific site.

I guess we may be out of options here but I was pretty excited to use EDAC and perhaps standardize on it. We have another client using Monsido so we may have to switch to something like that or maybe just keep using WAVE.

If you can offer any further assistance I’d def reconsider using EDAC! Thanks!

    Hey @johnstaples,

Thanks for getting back to me. I definetely want to help get to the bottom of this and figure it out. Is there any chance that you could reach out to me through a form on our website so that I can get more details about the exact server setup your using and maybe even a backup of the site to test with? If you are ok with that I will provide a link to a form that you can reach me through so we can dig in more deeply on this.

    Thanks @williampatton

I am interested in doing what you suggested but I cannot do much with it at the moment because of other projects that are consuming me. I’ll try to get back to you here ASAP. Thanks again!

I am battling this same issue. I began using the Equalize Digital Accessibility Checker on September 16, 2024. It worked great for about a week and a half, then I saw a notification that my website is password protected (it is not) and that the free version would not work on it. I no longer see the notification, but I cannot see my Accessibility Checker either. I can view and modify settings for it in my WordPress Dashboard, but the Checker itself never shows up on my pages anymore.
