• Hi,

I have been finding this problem a lot, when I use coloured backgrounds, mostly with the “background” block that allows to set a image as background, I have problems because the text on the editor appears as white.

The functionality also doesn’t have into account with the background colour, that even when the background is dark, you can change the background to the column / group or block inside, so text should be dark.

I am having right now the most problems with titles and lists. Because I am able to fix it on the front side with the additional CSS but I can’t fix it for the editor and it is really uncomfortable to work like this.

I guess I could edit the css from the theme, because the additional css doesn’t seem to apply to the editor side.

But I also found problems using child themes when I never had before (the spacing gets lost I guess because of some settings from the last update) or I had problems with some items appearing in block when I wanted them inline.

So I am trying to avoid child themes for now because it makes everything more complicated. I understand this is still in developement and needs improvements, so I’ll be patient.

I use Astra, and also tried changing to Twenty twenty three and that also happens there.

    Any other ideas?

And I would gladly appreciate that this gets fixed when possible.

    Thank you and regards.

    Taisa

  • Hi @taisa1984!

Could you share a direct link to the URL where you are experiencing this issue so we can take a look at the source code?

Also, what do you mean by ‘the “background” block’? Is this one of Gutenberg’s core blocks or is this a block added by a plugin? If this is coming from a plugin, the best place to ask would be their own support forum.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I mean the core block that allows to add a background image.

I could share some urls, like this:

    https://sarajimenezgomez.com/

But the problem is only visible on the editor, because I already applied fixes to the front. But I keep having the text in white on the editor what makes changing text really painful.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Taisa

    Hi @taisa1984,

I mean the core block that allows to add a background image.

Thanks for clarifying that you’re referring to the Cover Block, if I’m understanding correctly.

In theory when you add a cover block, the first step is to add a background image, and then add your text over that, so I don’t quite understand where you’re seeing a white background.

It would be extremely helpful if you would be willing create a test page on your site with just a Cover Block added to it, where the problem is visible and you haven’t applied any workarounds. That way I can inspect the code directly to see what might be going on.

It would also be super helpful if you could also share a screencast while you create the test page, so I can see your steps clearly If that’s not possible, a detailed written list of your steps, along with screenshots, would allow me to see if I can replicate the issue you’re experiencing, so please share that here as well if you’re able and I’ll be glad to have a look.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Sorry, I use it in spanish and the block name tanslation is literally “background” (Fondo) that’s why it wasn’t clear.

The other day I tried with a basic theme and had the same problem but now I was trying again with twenty to make the video or take some screenshots and there the problem is not as problematic.

I made some tests and made a recording…

    – The first one is on a test site with Twenty-twenty two
    – Second is on test site with Astra (Here seems to mostly work)
    – Third is a site I was working on, with Astra (No child theme). But this is happening in more sites I recently created.

    https://vimeo.com/779690184/3b10d278ef

Something I have noticed before in one of those sites is that I had problems with a new core WordPress functionality after an update (inline grouping) at a child theme, and after doing lots of tests to see what happeneed I tried to recreate changing the child theme name and it worked.

So maybe some settings are being saved associated to the theme that create problems?

In this case, if it is an Astra problem (but I think it happened too with other themes last time I tried but can’t reproduce it now), I guess I should write to Astra support?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Taisa

Hi there, thanks for the additional info. I’m not able to see the video due to its privacy settings.

If you suspect the issue is with Astra, I would suggest posting in its forum so the developers can have a look.

If you’re able to replicate the issue in a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Three or Twenty Twenty-Two, I’d be glad to take another look. If you can post a list of specific steps you’re taking when the problem occurs, that would be super helpful. Thanks!

Since I haven’t heard from you in a while and the issue is likely coming from Astra, I am going to mark this thread as resolved. If the issue persists, I would recommend asking in the Astra forum, @taisa1984.
