I have just had problems with two (problems are often like buses!) websites I look after. The problems seem to be linked to plugin wise, one is jigoshop, the other I’m not sure. Anyway, I deactivated all plugins and renamed the plugin folder to make sure they weren’t interfering with anything but I’m unable to see the site or access the dashboard with one site and the other is allowing login but there are no pages or posts. Both of the sites have the pages and posts on the databases as I’ve checked but somewhere along the line something is going very badly wrong. Has anyone had this problem with plugin deactivation/deletion before? What would my next step to try and solve this be? I’ve reinstalled WP on one of them and can access it all fine but if I go to transfer the database across so I’ve got all the data I get the same problems again; could there be something in the database that needs removing too that’s causing this? If so, where do I look?
    Any help MUCH appreciated!

    Have you tried:
    -clearing cache
    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Twelve or Twenty Thirteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.
    – If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue, try manually re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
Always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case.

    hi tara

    thanks for your reply..

    – how do i clear the cache if i can’t access the site; whereabouts is it on the server?

    – i’ve tried the theme switching thing and renamed etc. but that didn’t do anything and i also removed the theme

    – i shall try doing things manually from a fresh copy and see how i get on; all was backed up as soon as the problem was noted!

    how do i clear the cache if i can’t access the site;

    you don’t need to!
for, to clear browser cache, press clrl+f5 keys simultaneously.

whereabouts is it on the server?

one way would be to delete what’s under /wp-content/cache

    hi tara
tried clearing the cache both ways, no joy.
also attempted a manual re-install … whenever set the config file to pick up the database that’s when the problem starts so something in the database is causing the problem.
i tried to remove plugins that may still be there even though i’ve deleted off the server using this:

    https://www.hiddenwebgenius.com/blog/web-development/deactivating-wordpress-plugins-using-phpmyadmin/

but again no luck. is there anywhere else in the database i can remove plugin related things?

whenever set the config file to pick up the database that’s when the problem starts so something in the database is causing the problem.

    – double check all the information.
    – if all that information is correct your database probably has a problem with it, and you may need to contact your hosting provider if the database server is online / if they have any other problem at their end, or they made any changes to your account, or if there are any limitations/restrictions, if the hosting package is set to Windows and not Linux, etc.

yes i think i need to contact them. i did initially but they couldn’t help but i will ask them about any restrictions just incase. thanks for the help.
