• Ok this is an issue I have been dealing with for some time. When I try to update plug ins, themes are WordPress to version 3.8.1 I click update automatically, but then nothing. My side panel is still visible I can browse my site, add, remove and everything else freely but upon trying to update I am met with no feedback, just a blank screen with the side bars.

I thought it may be a permissions problem so I set all the required files to 777 using filezilla. This did nothing. So I tried restoring from a previous back up. Nothing. I have renamed the plugins folder and changed to the default theme to no avail.

I am stumped as to why I cannot Auto update. I have tried a manual update many times as well to be met with a magnitude of critical failures even following the instructions word for word.No matter why I attempt I am stuck on 3.5.1.

Any help here is greatly appreciated!

If your server does not let you auto update, try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
