White Screen of Death

I had not been able to access my dashboard OR web site for 2 weeks. My web site was broken! Finally I got a chance to look into it and was stumped. What can you do with no access to your dashboard??? I emailed my host provider who were very little help.I tried disabling my plugins and then theme via the control panel file manager. Nothing doing. I even deleted my theme to revert to the default. I then started looking at my .htaccess file and to my surprise I had almost 10 of these files in various places and a lot of them contained the words “Deny access to all”. I set about deleting all of these. When the last was remaining I copied the basic code in that a .htaccess file should have and then….wonder of wonders my dashboard was back! Bit more tweaking….activated my theme (which I had re installed on file manager) and yay my web site was up! Could scarcely believe it. Bit more tweaking required but I am soooo relieved and hope this helps someone else.
Somehow I must hide my .htaccess file more carefully in future.
