    Hi there,

As of yesterday, over 15 sites using this plugin are presenting a blank screen instead of CMS login.

Having tested a number of these sites it appears really simple SSL is the problem (ie disabling the plugin resolvers the issue).

Most sites running WP 6.0 and latest version of Really Simple.

Are you aware of this problem and can you offer a fix?

    Regards,

    Dave

We are on WP 6.0 with latest version of Really Simple SSL as well without any issues on our production and test websites. We haven’t had any other reports of issues with the current version, which is currently active on about 2.5 million websites.

So this looks to be a very specific configuration issue on your server. To get to the bottom of this, can you do the following?

    – Install the wp-debugging plugin, then visit the login screen with the plugin activated, then get the logs from the debugging plugin and post them here, or email them to us.

    – Post the PHP version of your server.

    – Please also post or email a list of installed plugins, so we can check for any compatibility issues.

for emailing the above, please use support (at) really-simple-ssl.com

    Hello @rogierlankhorst

I tell you that I have 5 websites with Really Simple SSL, with the most recent update that started to work with the white screen, in the error logs nothing appeared, in the debug mode, using chmod 0 in the Really Simple SSL plugin the problem was solved.

    Hello @rogierlankhorst ,

I’ve noticed the same in my websites. Via wp-admin/ the website show a white page.

I logged via FTP and renamed the folder “really-simple-ssl” inside wp-content/plugins/ folder. After renamed it, the wp-admin/ come to works again, but my plugin really-simple-ssl stop to working.

    Hi @chrisgtian, @jhosman55,

Could you also post your PHP versions and plugins? If you have PHP and/or plugins in common we know where to start.

Renaming the folder will deactivate the plugin, so this normal.

@jhosman55 as you’re using chmod to change permissions, could you elaborate on your server set-up?

    Thanks for your help.
    regards Aert

The latest update includes one actual change, regarding multisite. The other two changes were a stricter capability check, and dropping of a recommended header.

But reading your description it doesn’t look like you are on multisite, right?

Are you perhaps both recently upgraded to Php 8.1?

To narrow it down further, was your previous version 5.3.1?

Are you using the pro add on?

As soon as we are able te reproduce we can start a fix.

    Hello @chrisgtian and @jhosman55,

Are there any further updates regarding this issue?

We would be more than glad to assist, just let us know if there is any additional information we can use to reproduce this behavior on our own environments.

    Kind regards,
    Jarno

Edit: I just read your other post where you noted that installing the plugin from the repository fixed the problem.

Installing the original plugin from the repository will remove any edits on the original which might have caused the alert.

I would also recommend to update all other plugins to the latest version, or re-install them.

    Hi @chrisgtian and @jhosman55,

Just had contact with BitNinja. It appears that BitNinja has a bug in their malware scanner, incorrectly reporting a malware infection in Really Simple SSL.

We have been in contact with BitNinja and they have confirmed this is a FALSE POSITIVE and are working on a fix.
In the meanwhile you can restore the the deleted files from the BitNinja dashboard or via CLI. If you have any further questions regarding this issue you can contact BitNinja support.
