For some reason the block editor uses a nearly-white font color (#eaeaea) for CSS classes of “.editor-styles-wrapper” and “.editor-block-list__block”, so all my text is nearly impossible to read unless I pop open F12 browser tools and uncheck that particular color rule while I’m editing. Surely this isn’t expected experience, but I’m not sure how to solve it.

  • If your theme loads some styles in the editor, it could be conflicting. Also, a plugin supplying a block could load conflicting CSS. Or if the theme tells the editor to use dark mode when the styles are not for dark mode (conflicting styles).

@shawnkeenegmailcom, WordPress isn’t a company and shouting out to it on social media doesn’t do anything. Rather than linking to Twitter, can you show us your website that has the issue?

Wouldn’t sending you a link to the /admin page be worthless since you can’t login?

Looks like you are using a plugin for that block. You should ask in that plugin’s support forum.

What indicates that? It does it for all the block types I use like paragraph or list. I thought those were standard parts of this new editor. What’s it called again Gutenberg maybe. I can’t remember

@joyously you are spot on, I didn’t even know themes put styles into the editor. But after making a tweak to the homepage font color in the theme customizer panel to a darker gray text, I came back to /admin and found it changed the color of paragraphs in the editor to be the same gray color 7c7c7c. I guess it’s rare for the Storefront theme that WooCommerce recommends to have a dark background used and I’m the first to notice or at least report this.

I’m guessing at this point the only way to fix it is to split it into a child theme and go fix the CSS in the child so it doesn’t apply to the admin editor.

The new editor has a function to enable dark mode support, but unless the theme starts with that, it would have to analyze your color choices to know whether to enable it or not. Be sure to ask at your theme’s support forum for the best way to fix this, as it will help others also.

Thanks much. I posted it over in the “Storefront theme” forum at Support ? Theme: Storefront ? White Font on White Background in Block Editor
