Which translation plugin is recommended?

  • I’m making a site that has to be English and French, using Blue Planet.

    The listing for the theme says it’s translation ready, but neither Polylang nor WPML has integrated very well.

    I would like to know which translation plugin it was tested with, and if there are any trips and tricks that go with it. Thanks!

    ‘Translation Ready’ in WordPress themes means that every string to display in theme should be called using __() or _e(). Translation is done using .po file which you can find under languages folder. Please check the official documentation of Polylang.

    OK, but what does that mean from the viewpoint of a mere graphic designer, not a coder?

    One WPML page says there’s a MO file for French in wp-content/languages but there isn’t one in wp-content/themes/blue-planet – does that mean I need to have something in that directory?

    My main issue now is that the menus do not work properly with WPML. There doesn’t seem to be allowance for two main menu bars, one in each language. Can I fix this?

    Yes, you need to translate English to your desired language. You have to generate translated MO file and put it in languages folder inside theme. Be notified that you must KEEP BACKUP of language file while updating theme because it would be lost while updating.
