Which sender email address to use?

Under General Settings > Basic Settings > Sender email address
It seems the default entered for me is [email protected]. For my domain, however, I don’t have any address called [email protected]. Is that a problem? Should this be set to an existing address?
For example, I have set up [email protected]. So should I set the sender email address rather to [email protected]?
