Which Redirect Method to Use
-
The Codex lists three ways to give WP its own directory: Moving a Root, Using a Pre-Existing SubDir, and Pointing a URL to a subdirectory. I am currently using the Pointing method but I notice that the subdirectory displays in the URL address when navigating around the site. I would prefer to have a configuration that does not show the subdirectory. It’s easy to do for addon domains but I do not know how to do it when there is only one domain in a hosting account.
Does the Pre-Existing SubDir method display the subdirectory in the URL?
The Pre-Existing SubDir method says to copy the .htaccess from the subdirectory to the root. I don’t have any .htaccess in the sub, but I do have one in the root (the one I added using the Pointing method.) Do I delete the root .htaccess if I use the Pre-Existing method?
Is the Pre-Existing method anticipating an .htaccess file with specific content that I don’t have?
I would appreciate any clarification that can be provided. Thanks.
