Which method does this plugin use?

    Hi, I saw that you’ve referenced the article here in the past, to indicate that your method of obfuscation is reasonably effective (most robots don’t decode your encoded mailto links).

    I’m unsure, however, which of the methods described in that article is the method you’re actually using in this plugin? Is it the “urlencode” method, or the “Replacing @ and . with entities” method? Or another one?

    I’m also curious what your own “real-world” experience is with the method your plugin uses – do any spambots at all still manage to scrape the encoded email addresses? Or none at all?

    This plugin isn’t using either of the methods, it’s converting the email address into a mixture of plain characters, decimal entities and hexadecimal entities. This method isn’t bulletproof, however it’s compatible with any browser, easy to implement, doesn’t require JavaScript and the referred article shows that it’s quite safe.

    If you’re looking for a bulletproof solution, I’d recommend a contact form, or a JavaScript based solution.

    Okay – I’m a bit confused though – you say that the referred article shows that your method is quite safe, but I still don’t know which of the methods listed in the article (and shown on the graph there), is the method you’re using exactly!

    If your method isn’t mentioned in that article at all, then how is it that the article shows that your method is effective? That’s what is puzzling me. ??

    This plugin uses a combination the “urlencode” and “Replacing @ and . with entities” methods in that article.
